# Cloudflare down as parts of the internet grind to a halt

Cloudflare said it is investigating an internal service degradation that caused large parts of the internet to struggle to load on Monday. The company posted on its Cloudflare System Status page that some services may be intermittently impacted and that it is focused on restoring service. Cloudflare said it saw a spike in unusual traffic to one of its services beginning at 11:20 UTC. That caused some traffic passing through Cloudflare's network to experience errors. The company said it does not yet know the cause of the spike. Visitors to websites like X and Letterboxd saw error messages indicating Cloudflare issues were the cause according to The Independent. Down Detector was also hit by technical problems. Cloudflare said it has already seen some services recover but that customers may continue to observe higher-than-normal error rates as it tries to fix the problem. The company said it is all hands on deck to make sure all traffic is served without errors. Cloudflare provides content delivery network services, cybersecurity, DDoS mitigation and wide area network services. In the last 24 hours it was announced that Cloudflare was set to acquire the AI platform Replicate.
