IonQ reports quantum interconnect rate exceeding 1,000 events per second

IonQ reports quantum interconnect rate exceeding 1,000 events per second Image: Primary
IonQ has demonstrated entanglement rates exceeding 1,000 events per second between a trapped-ion qubit and a solid-state quantum memory, Yahoo Finance reported. Hardware results presented in a technical paper recorded more than four times the previous record for trapped-ion systems. Entanglement enables separate quantum systems to work together, supporting links between quantum computers. The demonstration connected a trapped-ion system to a silicon vacancy qubit through light, combining trapped-ion coherence with the memory's efficient coupling to light. The work supports DARPA's HARQ programme for interconnects compatible with multiple qubit types. This demonstration used trapped ions; adaptation to other computing architectures remains prospective.
