# AWS lets SageMaker administrators define custom project environments

_Published Friday, October 9, 2026 at 4:18 PM EDT · AI · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS says Amazon SageMaker Unified Studio now lets domain administrators define project environments with their own CloudFormation templates. The change allows organizations to use custom permissions boundaries and role names instead of relying on AWS managed policies and standard configurations.

Administrators register a template as a custom Tooling blueprint. The service checks required resources at registration and after each deployment, and automatically supplies project and domain identifiers. Templates can include data access grants, query workgroups and network security groups, and work across accounts and Regions without per-project edits. The feature is available wherever SageMaker Unified Studio is available.
