# AWS Lambda adds OAuth access to self-managed Kafka workloads

AWS says Lambda now supports OAuth authentication for self-managed Apache Kafka event source mappings, allowing customers to authenticate consumers through an enterprise identity provider. The change opens these mappings to customers whose security requirements mandate OAuth; previously, they supported only SASL/PLAIN, SASL/SCRAM and mutual TLS authentication.

The mappings connect Kafka workloads to serverless consumers and provide automatic scaling, error handling, batching and event filtering. Support includes customer-operated clusters and managed offerings such as Confluent Cloud, Aiven and Redpanda. Customers can use providers such as Amazon Cognito or Okta to apply shared identity governance and access policies across clusters and consumers.

OAuth is available in all AWS commercial Regions where self-managed Kafka mappings are supported.
