IBM announced a proposed processor for future IBM Z and LinuxONE systems whose 11 cores can switch between IBM Z and Arm software modes. IBM says KVM would run Arm64 Linux and Linux on Z virtual machines side by side, while z/OS remains in a separate partition. The company says the chip is planned on a 2-nanometer process and will include inference accelerators and an I/O data-processing unit. IBM indicates the successor system could arrive around 2028.
