Vercel's AI Gateway can now send a decision request to a fallback model when the primary answer meets a user-defined confidence condition. Developers enable the behavior by adding a conditional object to the gateway's model configuration; requests without it retain their existing behavior.

Conditions can combine multiple signals and apply to Choice and Score questions. Boolean questions use a probability range instead. Existing fallbacks for outright errors continue to work. The feature is in beta, and a triggered fallback runs a second decision, billing both stages.
