A report cited by Gizmodo says Occupational Safety and Health Administration data records more than 20 injuries involving Alphabet's Waymo and Amazon-owned Zoox test vehicles.

The reported injuries include sprains, back pain and whiplash, and were often associated with hard braking or rapid directional changes. Gizmodo says incidents were highest in Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco as autonomous-vehicle companies expanded testing and service activity. The vehicles involved included modified Toyota Highlanders used to test autonomous-driving software, rather than only purpose-built robotaxis.
