Study maps US flood-risk gaps with a 30-meter AI model
Image: Primary Researchers at the National University of Singapore and Tsinghua University developed a deep-learning framework that combines terrain data and official records to create a continuous 30-meter flood-hazard map for the contiguous United States. Their Nature Communications study estimates that official maps may omit about 11 million people and 4.1 million buildings from mapped flood zones. The researchers say the model is a public guide and complement to, not a replacement for, regulatory flood maps.
