CERN and Mistral signed a statement of intent to establish a long-term partnership developing foundation models for scientific discovery. CERN says the initial focus is a Large Physics Model trained on billions of simulated proton-proton collisions at the Large Hadron Collider.

The proposed model would support collision reconstruction, particle identification, detection of unexpected signals and evaluation of future detector designs. It would learn across a reconstruction process currently handled by a chain of specialised algorithms.

The collaboration would combine CERN's physics, data and computing expertise with Mistral's model-training capabilities. The single model remains a development ambition under the statement of intent.
