SafeDriveVLA preprint reports fewer collisions under unsafe driving instructions

Researchers report in a preprint that their SafeDriveVLA autonomous driving model reduced collisions under unsafe instructions from 60 to 38 compared with the best SimLingo variant. The model also improved closed-loop language following by 49.3% and achieved a Driving Score of 88.16 and a Success Rate of 68.64% on Bench2Drive. The system predicts whether to comply with navigation instructions separately from generating driving actions. A world model simulates strictly following the instruction to help determine whether compliance is safe. The results address conflicts between language instructions and road conditions, but establish benchmark performance rather than safety in deployed vehicles.
