Researchers report in an arXiv preprint that robot policies trained with RoboTryOn synthetic demonstrations improved average success on novel tasks from 2% to 60%, without real robot demonstrations of those tasks. Experiments covered multiple humanoid embodiments and included manipulation using both hands.

RoboTryOn converts human videos into videos of a target robot while preserving the task, objects and background. A model uses depth features to infer robot actions from the generated videos. The researchers also report performance matching policies trained solely on teleoperated demonstrations at approximately a third of the collection cost, within their experiments.
