The US Navy carried out a submerged launch demonstration of HADALUS, a low-cost, long-endurance unmanned undersea vehicle, in sea trials at Portsmouth, Rhode Island, according to a report citing Raytheon. The vehicle conducted end-to-end operations in a single mission, including detecting, reacquiring and acting against a target. Raytheon and Composite Energy Technology developed the 34-foot prototype in under 18 months; the companies say it is designed to cost roughly one-third to one-fifth as much as comparable long-endurance vehicles.
