Apple plans December AI rollout in China with restricted features

Apple plans December AI rollout in China with restricted features Image: Primary
Apple plans to release Apple Intelligence in mainland China in December through iOS 27.3, excluding its rebuilt Siri AI, Bloomberg reported, citing people familiar with the plans. The rollout will include Genmoji, notification summaries, writing tools and photo object removal from its 2024 feature set. Apple trained its China model with Alibaba's help. Their safeguards include a filter that lets the government approve ongoing model updates, while Baidu handles search and some Siri features. Image Playground will not be available, and text generation will be limited in some apps to comply with local rules. The rollout also excludes photo expansion, upgraded Genmoji and camera-based visual intelligence.
