Z.ai's ZCode coding tool uploaded encrypted snapshots of developers' repositories to company-controlled cloud storage when its Repo Wiki feature was generated, The Next Web reported. One developer found a 313MB archive containing a commercial project and its Git history; the upload setting was enabled by default and offered no off switch.

Z.ai apologized and said it had resolved the problem and immediately destroyed uploaded data. Outside users cannot verify that claim because the archive's private key remained on Z.ai's back end. One Chinese robotics company has reportedly banned the tools internally, while Z.ai has promised to open-source ZCode and invite third-party assessment.
