OpenAI announced three claimed AI-generated research results on October 26, including a disproof of the Exponential Time Hypothesis, which underpins computational-hardness conclusions in hundreds of papers. The company published its computer-science output and a machine-checkable Lean proof for public examination.

Russell Impagliazzo, Ramamohan Paturi and Ryan Williams will lead an independent examination. Participation is unpaid, and OpenAI agreed to release the underlying raw data and fund a conference.

OpenAI also released a claimed proof of the local smoothing conjecture in every dimension. A separate physics group will write up claimed quantum-field-theory results before releasing the AI artifacts. The company says translating the computational result into practical improvements will require significant further research.
