Amazon Web Services said Gemma 4, an Apache 2.0 open-weight model family, is generally available on Amazon Bedrock's next-generation inference engine in the AWS European Sovereign Cloud.

AWS called it the first open-weight family on that service in the independently operated EU cloud, with infrastructure entirely in the European Union and day-to-day operations controlled by EU-resident employees. All inference stays in Brandenburg, Germany (eusc-de-east-1); global cross-Region inference is unavailable. AWS said Bedrock uses zero operator access during inference and, by default, does not store prompts or responses, though limited retention may apply for abuse detection on certain models.

Three instruction-tuned variants offer built-in reasoning, native function calling, and multimodal text and image input via an OpenAI-compatible bedrock-mantle endpoint, billed per token with no upfront commitment.
