AeroVironment says it won work on three Mars helicopters
AeroVironment said its MacCready Works unit was awarded a contract to design and develop three autonomous helicopters for NASA's SkyFall Mars mission.
The company said it will lead design and production of rotor systems, airframes, structures, avionics integration and science-payload accommodation. JPL is to lead the power system, electronics, algorithms and software. The aircraft are intended to carry ground-penetrating radar and other instruments.
The release describes SkyFall as an active NASA mission and says its planned launch window is in the future.
