# Proposed Wine port runs 64-bit Windows software on OpenBSD

OpenBSD contributors have proposed a Wine port that they say successfully ran several dozen 64-bit Windows programs in testing. The draft uses software emulation of the %gs instruction prefix to overcome an obstacle to running the Windows compatibility software on OpenBSD.

Thomas Frohwein invited testing of the port on the openbsd-ports mailing list. The implementation cannot run 32-bit Windows software because WoW64 does not work. Built-in tests remain disabled because they require X server access and some hang, although contributors reported no such hangs in their testing of games.
