# GPU solver brings robot safety calculations into real-time control loops

Researchers report a GPU solver fast enough to calculate reachable danger zones inside a robot's control loop, moving a safety computation historically performed offline toward real-time use. Their arXiv preprint describes software for systems with two, three or four state dimensions.

On an NVIDIA RTX 4000 Ada, the solver computed a three-dimensional aircraft pursuit benchmark at 112 Hz using 32-bit precision. Across the reported workloads, it ran 5.9-17.5x faster than the JAX reference at matched precision. An embedded NVIDIA Jetson AGX Thor ran the aircraft benchmark at 66 Hz with N=41. The demonstrations cover benchmark dynamics and a simulated six-quadcopter wildfire response, rather than a deployed robot fleet.
