Voters had passed 33 measures restricting data centers or were favoring them in ongoing counts late Tuesday, Governing reported, citing tracking website Data Centers on the Ballot. The measures ranged from outright prohibitions and temporary moratoriums to energy-use limits and requirements for voter approval before construction.

Some measures were advisory requests for local officials to impose restrictions. Roughly a dozen similar contests had no announced vote totals, while only one measure, in North Dakota, had produced a victory for supporters of data center construction.
