UNESCO will host a hybrid one-day event on 11 February 2026 to mark the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.

The gathering at UNESCO Headquarters carries the theme From Vision to Impact: Redefining STEM by Closing the Gender Gap. It builds on prior UNESCO campaigns and shifts focus to existing good practices for building inclusive Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics ecosystems. The event places particular emphasis on new and emerging technologies and their influence on gender equality.

The celebration is organized in collaboration with Femmes@Numérique. It will bring together member states, rising and renowned scientists from programs including the L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Programme and OWSD Chapters, public and private sector stakeholders, UNESCO scientific networks, journalists and students.

Panel discussions will cover health research, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and scientific entrepreneurship. Speakers will share concrete measures shown to reduce the gender gap in these fields and conditions that enabled those outcomes. The event is fully booked for in-person participation with registration closed, while online registration remains open for the hybrid format.
