Smartphone chip shipments fall 21% as Apple and Samsung gain share Image: Primary
Global smartphone chip shipments fell 21% year over year in the third quarter of 2026, according to Counterpoint Research. Apple's share increased from 17% to 21%, while Samsung's rose from 6% to 8%. MediaTek remained the largest supplier with 28%, down 6 percentage points, followed by Qualcomm at 22%, down from 25%. Counterpoint linked the market's difficulties to rising memory costs and slowing smartphone demand. It expects shipments to decline 20% for 2026 and another 3% to 4% in 2027, with memory prices continuing to rise next year. The firm did not disclose quarterly shipment totals.
