Quantinuum said Monday that its Helios quantum computer achieved five errors per million operations, a tenfold improvement over its September result. The company reported 99.9995% logical fidelity, a measure of how reliably protected quantum calculations operate.

The system uses a "color code" to combine physical quantum bits into more reliable logical bits. Researchers reported that each tested increase in protection reduced remaining logical errors by a factor of 12. Quantinuum said the performance falls within its target range for Apollo, its planned fault-tolerant computer expected by 2029.

The result concerns a specific error-correction benchmark, rather than a large-scale, general-purpose computer capable of reliably executing complex algorithms.
