Finnish police open environmental probe into Google data centre site

Finnish police open environmental probe into Google data centre site Image: Primary
Oulu police have opened a preliminary investigation into suspected environmental damage at Google's data centre construction site in Muhos, Yle reported. The probe follows a Finnish Supervisory Agency request and will address five investigation requests concerning the site. Police cited irregularities and shortcomings in drainage and water management at the worksite, operated by Google's subsidiary Tuike Finland. Construction is part of Google's 13 billion euro investment in Finland. Preparatory work at Muhos and Kajaani-Otanmäki was already suspended on 14 October over incomplete environmental assessments. Police aim to complete the investigation during 2027.
