Quantinuum announced results from a new paper on logical qubits created on its Helios quantum computer. The work produced 48 error-corrected logical qubits and 64 error-detected logical qubits from 98 physical qubits. Researchers also generated 94 error-detected logical qubits entangled in a GHZ state with 94.9 percent fidelity.

The method used concatenated iceberg codes. These error-detecting codes were nested to enable both detection and correction of errors while achieving an encoding rate of about two physical qubits per logical qubit. The logical qubits recorded lower error rates than physical qubits in system-scale tests.

Researchers applied 64 error-detected logical qubits to a three-dimensional simulation of quantum magnetism. The simulation drew on the system's all-to-all connectivity. The demonstration forms part of Quantinuum's effort to develop large-scale logical operations on commercial hardware.
