India ordered internet providers to block access to Supabase, a developer database platform and one of its key markets. The blocking order came on February 24 under Section 69A of the Information Technology Act. Access has been patchy across networks as a result.

Supabase reported the problem on social media starting Wednesday, first on Reliance Industries JioFiber network. Problems were later noted on multiple providers and telecom networks. The company posted a message on Friday tagging IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to seek restoration of access, but later removed it while noting the site remained blocked for many users.

An Indian founder reported no new sign-ups from the country in the past two to three days. A technology consultant said access for development and production purposes had become unreliable. Supabase suggested switching DNS settings or using a VPN, but those options were viewed as impractical for most end users.

At publication, the site could not be reached on ACT Fibernet, JioFiber, and Airtel in New Delhi. Some users on ACT Fibernet in Bengaluru retained access, pointing to uneven enforcement. The main website stayed reachable, yet the underlying developer infrastructure did not.

Raman Jit Singh Chima, Asia Pacific policy director at Access Now, said the situation creates uncertainty for developers about where projects can safely run without risk of sudden blocks. The government did not cite a reason for the order, and it was unclear how long the restrictions would last. The ministry and providers including ACT Fibernet, Bharti Airtel, and Reliance Jio did not respond to comment requests.
