Anthropic said its artificial intelligence assistant Claude will remain free of advertising. The company stated that conversations with Claude are intended as a space for work and deep thinking, and that ads would be incompatible with that purpose. It said users would not see sponsored links or product placements in their conversations.

The firm noted that users often share sensitive or personal topics, as well as complex software engineering tasks and difficult problems. It said the format of AI conversations differs from search engines or social media, where a mix of organic and sponsored content is expected. Introducing ads could influence responses in ways that make it hard for users to know if a recommendation has a commercial motive, Anthropic said.

Anthropic said its revenue comes from enterprise contracts and paid subscriptions, which it reinvests in improving Claude. The company said it wants to support user-initiated commerce features, such as agentic purchases or connections to tools like Figma, Asana and Canva. All third-party interactions should be started by the user rather than driven by advertisers, it said.
