Oshen deployed five of its C-Star autonomous micro-robots near the U.S. Virgin Islands in advance of Hurricane Humberto. Three of the robots survived the full Category 5 storm and collected ocean data throughout the event. Founder Anahita Laverack said the robots became the first ocean robots to gather data through a Category 5 hurricane. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had requested the deployment after Oshen completed tests in United Kingdom winter storms. The company built 15 C-Stars for the mission and sent eight of them. Laverack said the robots exceeded plans that called only for data collection ahead of the storm.
