Elon Musk seeks between 79 billion and 134 billion dollars in damages from OpenAI and Microsoft in a lawsuit. He claims the company defrauded him by abandoning its nonprofit mission. Bloomberg first reported the demand, which relies on an analysis by financial economist C. Paul Wazzan.

Wazzan calculated the figure from Musk's 38 million dollar seed donation in 2015 and his additional technical and business contributions to the early team. The analysis attributes wrongful gains of 65.5 billion to 109.4 billion dollars to OpenAI and 13.3 billion to 25.1 billion dollars to Microsoft. The latter holds a 27 percent stake in OpenAI.

Musk's legal team argues he deserves returns many orders of magnitude above his initial investment. His personal fortune stands at approximately 700 billion dollars. The trial is set for April in Oakland, California.

OpenAI has notified investors and business partners that Musk intends to make deliberately outlandish claims during the proceedings.
