Apple plans to turn Siri into full AI chatbot

Apple is preparing to transform its Siri assistant into a chatbot resembling ChatGPT, according to a report by Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. The feature, codenamed Campos internally, would handle both voice and text queries and is slated for integration with iOS 27. The update is positioned to be a highlight at the company's WWDC event in June. Senior vice president Craig Federighi had earlier indicated a desire to avoid chatbot functionality in favor of more seamlessly integrated AI tools. The revised approach follows the strong performance of rival chatbot offerings. Apple had previously postponed enhancements to make Siri more personalized and had evaluated AI technology from OpenAI and Anthropic. The company ultimately partnered with Google on its Gemini model, a deal confirmed earlier this month. It is also aware of OpenAI's hardware ambitions, which involve former Apple executive Jony Ive.
