Meta Announces Nuclear Energy Projects, Unlocking Up to 6.6 GW to Power American Leadership in AI Innovation
Image: Primary Meta announced agreements with Oklo, TerraPower and Vistra to support nuclear energy projects. The agreements follow a nuclear request for proposals process. They will help add clean reliable energy to electric grids and preserve investment in operating nuclear power plants.
The projects are expected to support up to 6.6 gigawatts of new and existing clean energy
Commitments to Oklo and TerraPower will advance the next generation of American nuclear reactor developers. The agreement with TerraPower supports two new Natrium units capable of generating up to 690 megawatts with delivery as early as 2032. Meta also has rights for energy from up to six other Natrium units.
The partnership with Vistra provides financial support for operating nuclear power plants at Perry and Davis-Besse in Ohio and Beaver Valley in Pennsylvania. It will purchase more than 2.1 gigawatts from the plants and support expansions totaling 433 megawatts.
Meta said it pays the full costs for energy used
