# Diamond Foundry says it has made a 200mm single-crystal diamond wafer

Diamond Foundry announced what it calls the world's first 200mm single-crystal diamond wafer, a manufacturing milestone aimed at using diamond to cool semiconductors, including AI chips. The material is estimated to conduct heat at least five times better than copper.

Unlike polycrystalline diamond, the wafer consists of a single crystal, which supports efficient heat conduction while retaining electrical insulation. Its diameter matches the wafer size used in older semiconductor manufacturing processes.

The sample remains unpolished and needs further processing before it is suitable for chipmakers. The company also projects that a D300 single-crystal diamond wafer could be made before 2030.
