Apple has dismissed a number of engineering program managers in its hardware division over the past two weeks, Bloomberg reported, as chief executive John Ternus pursues a leaner organization. The cuts include roughly half a dozen directors. Affected employees have weeks to find other positions within Apple before facing layoffs later this year.

The report says Ternus also wants to release products more frequently and reduce management layers between engineers and senior executives. Those broader changes are plans; the reported dismissals are the action already taken. The program managers had coordinated schedules and work across hardware teams.
