Debian developers voted to allow the use of AI tools in the distribution's development, maintenance and documentation. The policy neither endorses nor prohibits generative AI, and it does not impose special rules beyond Debian's existing contributor standards. Contributors remain responsible for quality, correctness, maintainability and legal compliance, and are expected to understand, review, test and, where appropriate, modify AI-assisted work before submitting it. Disclosure of AI assistance is encouraged but not required.
