# AWS adds Kubernetes 1.37 support with idle workload scaling to zero

_Published Friday, October 2, 2026 at 2:10 PM EDT · Infrastructure · Latest · Tier 2 — Notable_

AWS now supports Kubernetes 1.37 on Amazon EKS and EKS Distro, allowing customers to create or upgrade clusters across all EKS regions, including AWS GovCloud. The release makes CPU and memory metrics generally available and lets administrators mark devices such as GPUs so scheduling avoids them unless workloads explicitly tolerate those restrictions.

A beta autoscaling feature, enabled by default, can reduce idle workloads to zero Pods and restore them when demand returns. It requires a minimum replica setting of zero and object or external metrics.
