OpenAI is rolling out Images 2.6 globally across all ChatGPT and Codex subscription tiers, allowing users to generate GIFs from text prompts or animate uploaded images, Mashable reports. Users can also turn rough drawings into more complete images for animation.

The feature supports animation-speed adjustments and editing of individual frames. Its GIF capability does not constitute video generation; OpenAI suggests using it for animated storyboards or exploring character movement before production.

OpenAI says Images 2.6 generates images 50 percent faster than Images 2.5. Its GPT-Image-2.6 Flare and Sunburst models are also rolling out through the company's API.
