Google has begun replacing publisher-written headlines with AI-generated versions in search results, The Verge reported.

Publishers described the practice as a threat to editorial integrity. Google said the AI-generated headlines better match user search intent.

The change comes as publishers already face declining traffic from Google due to AI summaries that answer queries without requiring users to click through.
