Minneapolis council approves human-monitor requirement for robotaxis

Minneapolis council approves human-monitor requirement for robotaxis Image: Primary
The Minneapolis City Council approved an ordinance on October 1 requiring a licensed human safety monitor inside driverless rideshare vehicles operating in the city, FOX 9 reported. The monitor would need immediate access to steering, braking and acceleration and would receive minimum wage. The ordinance ties that requirement to a city-issued operating license. Waymo has been mapping Minneapolis streets ahead of a potential rollout. Mayor Jacob Frey, who has criticized the measure, could still veto it; otherwise, it would take effect in October 2027.
