# Yara inaugurates 800,000-tonne carbon-capture plant in Netherlands

Yara has inaugurated an industrial carbon-capture facility at its ammonia and fertilizer plant in Sluiskil, Netherlands, with capacity to capture 800,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide a year.

The company's process captures CO2 from ammonia production, liquefies it for temporary storage and sends it by ship to Norway. Northern Lights will store the cargo in a reservoir 2,600 meters beneath the seabed. The project is expected to store about 12 million tonnes over 15 years.

Its annual capture capacity equals about 0.5% of Dutch greenhouse-gas emissions, according to the report.
