# Janelia publishes complete male fruit-fly CNS connectome

Researchers at HHMI's Janelia Research Campus have published in Cell a connectome of the full central nervous system of a male fruit fly.

The wiring diagram covers more than 166,000 neurons in the brain, optic lobes and ventral nerve cord, plus millions of connections. It extends beyond the 25,000-neuron hemibrain map released in 2020 and is intended as a resource for the scientific community. Janelia says the map lets researchers trace circuits linking sensory perception to behavior and compare male and female brains.
