Researchers at Suzhou University of Science and Technology in China have demonstrated a flexible array of 100 artificial electronic synapses with 26-nanosecond switching, New Atlas reported. The laboratory devices maintained 10 distinct conductance levels, representing different connection strengths.

The team used liquid coating to place an organic framework between conductive electrodes on a flexible plastic substrate, avoiding vacuum deposition. A handwriting-recognition simulation using measured device characteristics achieved 97.23% accuracy against a 99.24% software reference result; it represented approximately 120,000 synapses rather than running on the physical array.

The substrate decomposed within six minutes in a heated chemical solution. Large-scale integrated computing performance, energy consumption and long-term durability remain unestablished.
