Ukraine's air defenses intercept just 50 or 60 percent of newer jet-powered Shahed drones, compared with more than 85 percent of conventional Shahed-type drones, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said on October 4. Ars Technica reported the warning amid intensified Russian strikes on Ukrainian data centers and mobile networks that have disrupted Internet and phone service.

Attacks concentrated on Kyiv's telecommunications infrastructure began September 23. Ukraine's digital transformation ministry reported temporary Internet outages affecting 100,000 households in the Kyiv region from the initial strikes. Officials and industry figures warn that repeated attacks could undermine networks supporting banks, payment systems and public services.
