Reddit plans login requirements to restrict scraping and personalize access

Reddit plans login requirements to restrict scraping and personalize access Image: Primary
Reddit plans to limit browsing without an account and test login requirements in selected markets outside the United States in the coming months, co-founder Steve Huffman announced. The company says most unauthorized data access occurs through logged-out pages and will continue licensing data commercially to AI platforms and search engines. The change would also support personalized recommendations and advertising. Reddit has not determined the initial countries, restricted content or rollout timetable. Huffman said the front page should remain accessible and visitors following external links should see the destination page. Users will not need real names or identification documents.
