Nvidia and AMD seek White House help to narrow proposed China chip controls

Nvidia and AMD Ask White House to Defuse China Chip Curbs in Defense Bill Image: Primary
Nvidia and AMD are pressing the White House and Commerce Department to remove or revise proposed China-related chip restrictions in the annual defense policy bill, BigGo Finance reports, citing Politico. The companies want administration officials to intervene with lawmakers over provisions that would tighten oversight of advanced chip sales. Language based on the AI OVERWATCH Act would codify export restrictions and give Congress greater oversight of export licensing. Its Senate version entered the fiscal 2027 defense bill in July. The companies also seek clarity that proposed chip tracking requirements would not require hardware changes, along with more compliance time. They argue broad restrictions could reduce access to China and accelerate competing domestic chip development.
