xAI shipped Grok Imagine Image 2.0 on August 7, 2026, making the new model generally available as the Quality Mode on grok.com/imagine and inside the company's iOS and Android apps, the company announced.

The release adds region-level editing tools including a magic wand that changes only the area a user points at, segmentation for precise modifications, and background removal that exports subjects with transparency. Multi-reference editing accepts up to five input images in a single generation, and a smart-resize feature recomposes one image across nine aspect ratios. The company says the model was trained for fidelity across photography, design, and illustration with an emphasis on typography and layout. Templates package common tasks such as product shots, professional headshots, e-commerce listings, game assets, and marketing posters into ready-made workflows.

xAI reports that Image 2.0 ranks second in the world in both text-to-image generation and image editing, citing the Arena text-to-image and image-edit leaderboards as of August 7, 2026.
