AWS expands ElastiCache data tiering in Spain and Hyderabad

AWS made ElastiCache for Valkey data tiering available on Graviton4-based R8gd nodes in Europe (Spain) and Graviton3-based R7gd nodes in Spain and Asia Pacific (Hyderabad). The feature uses node-local solid-state drives alongside memory to support clusters with hundreds of terabytes of capacity. ElastiCache automatically moves the least recently used items to SSD when memory fills, then returns them to memory when requested. AWS says the approach suits workloads that regularly access up to 20% of their data and can tolerate extra latency. It requires Valkey 7.2 or later.
