ReactOS can now install directly on an NTFS partition, removing its previous requirement for a FAT32 installation partition, Ars Technica reported. The open-source Windows alternative aims for binary compatibility with Windows Server 2003, making support for the Windows filesystem a practical development milestone.

The new driver still lacks caching, journaling and security support. ReactOS says the missing caching causes inferior performance and warns of potentially undiscovered bugs. The project has yet to reach beta.
