Two dozen Tesla Cybercabs are operating from the company's Southfield collision repair facility and have been seen on major Detroit-area roads, The Columbus Dispatch reported. The vehicles carry test drivers using temporary steering wheels, although the two-seat design is intended to operate without a steering wheel in service.

The deployment puts Cybercabs into Michigan's multi-season driving environment alongside Waymo vehicles. Waymo began fully autonomous testing in the region in October without human specialists driving. Waymo says it has no timeline for public service in Detroit; Tesla could not be reached for comment on its public deployment timeline.
