Synaptics sent a cease-and-desist notice to the developer of Vino, an independent open-source DisplayLink driver, Phoronix reported. The outlet said the company appeared to be using patent claims to block development of the Rust kernel driver.

The Vino repository is no longer publicly available on GitHub. Phoronix pointed to correspondence attached to a Linux kernel mailing-list thread; its account describes a legal demand rather than a court ruling on patent infringement.
