Microsoft has confirmed that updates beginning with its August 2026 preview release can leave some users with a black screen after sign-in or cause Windows Explorer to crash. The problem mainly affects Azure Virtual Desktop hosts using FSLogix, software that helps load user profiles in virtual desktop environments.

For enterprise customers, Microsoft has made a Known Issue Rollback available to reverse the change causing the fault. Administrators must install the group policy for their Windows version and restart affected devices. Users can also start Windows Explorer manually to reach the desktop. The rollback is a mitigation while Microsoft works on a permanent update.
